1730–1818 Daniel Curling

Daniel married firstly Sarah Cooper in 1758 by whom he had a daughter Elizabeth who married James Petley of Cliffs End. After Sarah’s death in 1761 Daniel married Thomasine Holman in 1763 and they had two sons and four daughters: Daniel the eldest son married Mary Dunkin; John Garrett Curling died single; Ann and Thomasine died single; Mary married Francis Holman and Sarah married John Curling who, according to Cotton, was her cousin. Daniels’ second wife Thomasine died aged 35 in 1778 and he finally married Sarah Boyman in 1781. There appear to be no children from the third marriage.

Francis Holman was a nephew of Francis Holman (1729 – 1784) the marine artist and he is referred to in the latter’s will as son of John Holman, mariner of Ramsgate. John Holman’s will was proved in 1816

Daniel’s will made 23 Oct 1817 and proved in 1818 refers to Chilton Farm of 116 acres now in the occupation of his son Daniel. Daniel died on 1st August 1818 aged 89 years.

Daniel Curling who owned Chilton Farm until his death in 1818 erected a landing stage at Pegwell Bay in 1784. His son, also a Daniel, then held Chilton – see here
